Location, Location, Location:
Esquimalt Lagoon
- A salt water lagoon situated on the south
end of Vancouver Island which allows views of
Olympic Mountains and panoramic view of the city.
It is surrounded by coniferous
forests of Douglas- fir, grand fir, and western
red cedar, The undergrowth is mostly while ferns,
vanilla leaf, and foam flowery. Glen Creek. a
small stream, feeds the lagoon. Esquimalt Lagoon
is a favourite spot for Greater Victoria's
waterbirds: Mallards, Pintails, Swans and Coots
are attracted in large numbers.
The narrow stretch of beach that separates the
lagoon from the ocean is called a spit. The spit
was formed by wave action and deposits
of sediment from the Colwood Delta.
