Location, Location, Location:
Beacon Hill Park
- situated at the foot of Douglas Street in
downtown Victoria, along the south shore of
Victoria and the Juan de Fuca Strait. I make
excellent use of the hundreds of locations within
this spectacular park. Manicured gardens,
spreading green lawns, waterfowl lakes, lilly
ponds, fountains, waterfalls, and graciously
wooded areas of exotic and native trees make for
the perfect wedding photography backdrop. This
greatly loved green space with with formal rose
gardens may be one of your favourites!
The beautifully landscaped park,
designed by Scotsman John Blair features quaint
bridges over lakes and ponds along with alpine and
rock gardens. Onc can still see the Rhododendrons
he planted around Fountain Lake over 100 years
ago.
Beacon Hill Park was originally
named after a pair of strategically placed hill
masts that acted as a navigational beacon to
assist mariners approaching Victoria's inner
harbour. The masts were errected in 1843 on
Brotchie Ledge by officers of the Hudson Bay
Company
Park attractions include the Beacon
Hill Children's petting zoo, Sports fields and
play grounds, a band stand. You can see the
tallest totem pole in the world, reaching almost
40 metres into the sky. You can take carriage
rides through the park at most times of year.
